Download PDFPromoted by the Municipality of Conegliano and Civita Tre Venezie, with the patronage of the Cortina 2021 Foundation, “Il racconto della montagna nella pittura tra ‘800 e ‘900” is the third round of the cycle dedicated to the landscape in Venetian painting between the 19th and 20th centuries at the Palazzo Sarcinelli.
Curated by Giandomenico Romanelli and Franca Lugato, the exhibition is aimed at deepening the theme of the mountain, which presents itself in significant form in the Italian landscape painting since the mid-nineteenth century, acquiring an increasingly decisive characterization between the end of the century and the first decades of the following, thanks also to scientific explorations and the conquest of the highest peaks.
Alongside the works of famous Italian and foreign authors who have mainly portrayed the Dolomites, from Ciardi to Compton, from Sartorelli to Pellis, from Wolf Ferrari to Chitarin, visitors will also be able to (re) discover the alpine landscapes of lesser-known artists. In addition to the paintings, the exhibition presents a selection of publications, cartography, volumes, prints, testifying to the fortune and the growing appeal that the theme takes on in the second half of the nineteenth century. In addition to being an important tourist destination, in line with a widespread trend in other European countries such as France and Great Britain, the mountain has represented, in fact, an identity sign of Italy and its cultural heritage, parallel to the completion of national unity .
