Giornata Nazionale del Trekking Urbano
What is Urban Trekking?
Urban Trekking is a form of sustainable and responsible tourism that promotes the rediscovery of cities through themed walking routes. It combines physical activity with the appreciation of historical and artistic heritage, while also encouraging attention to the urban environment. Unlike traditional trekking, urban trekking does not require special preparation or equipment and is suitable for people of all ages.
Urban trekking offers an opportunity to explore historic centers, lesser-known neighborhoods, green areas, and sites of memory, encouraging a slow and mindful approach to discovering the local area.
National Urban Trekking Day – October 31st
The National Urban Trekking Day, held annually on October 31st, is a nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness among citizens and visitors about the importance of sustainable and accessible tourism. On this day, participating cities offer themed walking itineraries that guide participants in discovering urban historical, artistic, and landscape heritage.
The lead city for the initiative is Siena, which coordinates the project at the national level, defining the yearly guidelines and proposing the annual theme.
