Giornata Nazionale del Trekking Urbano
What is Urban Trekking?
Urban Trekking is a form of sustainable and responsible tourism that promotes the rediscovery of cities through themed walking routes. It combines physical activity with the appreciation of historical and artistic heritage, while also encouraging attention to the urban environment. Unlike traditional trekking, urban trekking does not require special preparation or equipment and is suitable for people of all ages.
Urban trekking offers an opportunity to explore historic centers, lesser-known neighborhoods, green areas, and sites of memory, encouraging a slow and mindful approach to discovering the local area.
National Urban Trekking Day – October 31st
The National Urban Trekking Day, held annually on October 31st, is a nationwide initiative aimed at raising awareness among citizens and visitors about the importance of sustainable and accessible tourism. On this day, participating cities offer themed walking itineraries that guide participants in discovering urban historical, artistic, and landscape heritage.
The lead city for the initiative is Siena, which coordinates the project at the national level, defining the yearly guidelines and proposing the annual theme.
October 31st, 2025: Conegliano, a welcoming place along the pilgrims’ ways
Conegliano, located on the foothills at the edge of the plain, has since ancient times been a landmark for those traveling for commercial or religious reasons, such as pilgrims on their way to Rome, the Holy Land, or Santiago de Compostela.
Starting from the IAT Office in Viale Carducci, participants of the guided tour will explore the many religious convents in the city which, in order to offer hospitality, shelter, and spiritual comfort to wayfarers, were sometimes expanded and embellished with new works of art. This role, however, was not only carried out by the Crociferi, Dominicans, and Franciscans, but also by lay brotherhoods like the Battuti, and by the many inns and taverns, many of which were established in jubilee years to meet the high demand from the faithful. At the end of the tour, a small toast will be offered, just like the pilgrims used to do at the end of each stage.
