Borgo Antico azienda agricola
Borgo Antico is a family-run winery founded among the hills of Conegliano Veneto, an area of moraine soils that give the wines delicate aromas and particularly distinctive fragrances.
The story begins in 1973, when Mr. Marchesin, starting with the first hectares of land, decided to produce local wines, involving the entire family—especially his son Leonardo, who from a young age accompanied him in the vineyard, breathing in its atmosphere and learning the secrets of a fascinating craft. Leonardo later became an oenologist and, in 1995, took over the management of the winery, which today extends over 25 hectares and produces 160,000 bottles per year. The Glera variety plays a leading role, but native grape varieties that are part of the region’s history—such as Marzemino and Verdiso—continue to be cultivated, alongside Merlot and Cabernet, used to create niche products with distinctive characteristics.
In the production of Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG Prosecco Superiore, cryo-maceration has been introduced to extract the primary aromas from the grape skins, resulting in a wine that is rich on the palate and pleasantly aromatic. Filtration is not carried out, allowing the natural yeasts from the grapes to transfer all their aromas while also adding structure to the wine. Sulphites are used only during the sparkling process, and in small quantities, to preserve the wine in the bottle; this means that the sulphur dioxide content is even lower than that found in organic wines.
The continuous growth and development of the business have led to the restyling and expansion of the original winery premises. Although renovated, the structure still conveys the warmth of the Marchesin family, evoking the historical essence of the name Borgo Antico.
In terms of sustainability and environmental protection, the winery is committed to using renewable energy and exclusively grapes from its own vineyards and trusted growers, with whom strong relationships of friendship, as well as work, have developed over time. The wines are produced using techniques that respect the grapes without stressing them. This care begins in the vineyard, with a thoughtful approach inspired by organic practices. The vineyards are cultivated using modern techniques rooted in the knowledge and wisdom of traditional winemakers. The decision not to use herbicides, to minimize chemical treatments, and to harvest exclusively by hand using crates adds further value and uniqueness.
All of this supports the winery’s main goal: to create unique and innovative products that convey emotion.
Throughout the year, guided tours and tastings with typical local products (cheeses and cured meats) are organized by reservation (at least two days in advance via email or phone). The winery also offers the possibility to rent its spaces for private events and aperitifs.
An on-site shop is also available.
